There is / There are

There is/are equivalen en español a hay.
There is se utiliza para el singular y there are para el plural:

Ejemplos:
There is a bottle of wine on the table.  There are three potatoes on that plate.

Afirmativa:

Forma completa:                          Forma contraída:
There is a pen here.                     There´s a pen here.
There are many books.                There´re many books.

Negativa:

There is not a pen here.              There isn´t a pen here.
There are not many books.         There aren´t many books.

Interrogativa:

Para hacer la forma interrogativa, se cambia la estructura de la oración: Is o Are quedan al principio de la pregunta y a continuación, se colocar there.

Ejemplos:
Is there a pen here?              Yes, there is.         No, there is not/isn´t.  
Are there many books?        Yes, there are.      No, there are not/aren´t.
